Alex Prager: Face in the Crowd
January 25 through March 8, 2014

For “Face in the Crowd,” a body of work that debuted at the Corcoran in D.C. last year, photographer Alex Prager assembled large groups of genuinely interesting-looking people dressed in vintage clothing. They’d congregate in congested places and Prager would photograph them from angles that either made it look like the camera was hovering above them or in the crowd with them. The images are now on view in M+B’s main, back galleries and the film Prager made, starring Elizabeth Banks as a “face” in the crowd, plays in the front gallery.
