Supports/Surfaces is Alive and Well | Matt Connors: Complaints III
January 18 through March 1, 2014
2712 S. La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90034
“Supports/Surfaces” was the name of a group of French artists focused on the basic components of a painting — canvas and stretcher bars — who exhibited, wrote manifestos and distributed leaflets between 1966 and 1974. At Cherry and Martin, work from that movement hangs alongside minimal new abstract work by L.A. artists Jennifer Boyson and Noam Rappapport to make for a very geometric but simultaneously inexact show. In the gallery’s second space, at 2732 La Cienega, Matt Connors has lined corners and ceilings with colored, powder coated iron bars.
