Tony de los Reyes: Rio Grande/Rio Bravo
January 11 through February 15, 2014
2754 S. La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90034
Tony de los Reyes tended toward figures, landscape and text (though loosely — like in his homage to Moby Dick, with waves that looked like big spills) before he started doing work about borders — specifically, the line between the U.S. and Mexico. All the works in his “Border Theory” exhibition are abstractions, made of dye and oil on raw linen, that often include the curving line of the Rio Grande.
